Mathematics, Metamaterials and Meteorites
The 2017 David Crighton Medal will be presented to Professor I. David Abrahams on Thursday 15 March 2018 at the Royal Society. Professor Abrahams will then give a talk, which will be followed by a reception.
Abstract: This talk will discuss several application areas of current interest to the speaker, indicating how applied mathematics can answer phenomenological questions, make new predictions, and assist industry in product design. In particular, we shall show how asymptotic techniques, developed by David Crighton and others, can be employed to reduce low-frequency noise from domestic appliances. As time allows, the talk will also focus more broadly on knowledge exchange in the UK.
Admission to the lecture and reception is by ticket only. For tickets, please contact Katherine Wright, Society Business Officer at the London Mathematical Society, De Morgan House, 57–58 Russell Square, London WC1B 4HS, UK, or email prizes@lms.ac.uk by 1 March 2018. Tickets are free of charge and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please confirm whether you would like to attend the lecture and reception, or the lecture only.
