LMS Advisory Board for Undergraduate Research Bursaries – Call for Volunteers

In an effort to streamline and simplify the procedure to assess LMS-HIMR Undergraduate Research Bursary (URB) applications, the LMS Early Career Research Committee intends to create the LMS Advisory Board for Undergraduate Research Bursaries of up to 10 people to look at the applications. This board should cover the breadth of mathematics. Its membership will be known to the applicants. We encourage early career researchers to apply and we encourage retired academics too – and anyone in between!

We are looking for volunteers to join the Board. The responsibilities will be to assess and make recommendations on between 15 to 20 applications and to attend a Zoom advisory meeting to be held annually in March. We anticipate the total work commitment to be about 10 hours spread over a week plus an online meeting of up to 3 hours.

If you would like to contribute to the URB scheme as a Board member please complete the Expression of Interest form here by
1 November 2021. The form will ask you to provide:

a) Contact details;
b) University and department;
c) Areas of expertise (please make as broad as possible);
d) Whether you have supervised an undergraduate student project;
e) Whether you have been involved in assessing undergraduate projects or project proposals.

The URB steering group, will select the Board from the list of volunteers aiming to have a balanced board in terms of diversity, gender, geographic location, subject expertise and universities represented.
